A good question, but it has been answered already. Adi Shankara tells us in “The Teaching or Reality” that we are not our bodies, nor our minds, nor any of that Aristotlean model.

The body and the mind provide a flavour to awareness. We see through bodily eyes, walk with bodily legs, recall our bodily memories, but consciousness itself isn’t something the body creates. It is part of the fabric of the universe, as much as gravity or electricity.

If you think that you are limited to a particular bundle of bones and neurones, that is attachment. Gravity isn’t limited to our one planet, is it?

I don’t know how consciousness works any more than I know how gravity works. What I do know is that it isn’t limited to this particular bundle of joy.
