We’ve been celebrating the end of lockdown here in Melbourne, along with the traditional first Tuesday in November holiday, so there’s been a certain amount of social rationalisation going on.

And I’m watching CNN — my old laptop is busy broadcasting the B team of presenters right now — and the numbers are looking very good for Biden. Some time tomorrow — my Saturday — I expect him to be looking at claiming victory.

Various state officials have been providing input as to why the count is so methodical and protracted, and I am satisfied that it is all carefully planned.

Just a matter of holding on and breaking out the bubbly — I have some sparkling rosé in the fridge — when it happens.
