I agree completely. It is not just income dividing the world.
Rosling’s point is that the similarities of wealth (or poverty) are constant around the world.
He also makes the point that focusing on the media to present a full and balanced picture is a poor strategy. Media outlets aim for the extremes, aim for controversy, ignore the everyday and the average. All we hear from media outlets are stories that are out of the ordinary.
Something that makes the evening news does so precisely because it is extraordinary.
He makes the point several times that his own entrenched assumptions – as a white Swedish guy – were wrong.
In his final chapter he presents his big worries about the world. It’s worth a read.
