Not just time, but distance. Given our planet is whirling through space around the sun, revolving as it goes, and the sun itself is orbiting the centre of the Milky Way which is pursuing its own course, and past (or future) time is going to be a long way away across a vacuum.

A seamless integration with the present moment is hard to explain.
