Pretty much every quote I see is taken out of context. From the Bible, from Shakespeare, from the Tao, the Gita.

The parable of the Good Samaritan, for example. In which circumstances was it first delivered? Jesus wasn’t just engaging in idle conversation, nor preaching to a crowd. The context gives added value, but few give it or talk about it.

I see little bits of Sanskrit taken out of context all the time. Words not just mangled in pronunciation, but mangled in meaning. I might sigh, but I’d rather people were drawing from that tradition than ignoring it. Someone might feel the urge to look closer and learn more. There’s a positive.
