Conservative media are always going to be looking for cultural narratives where there is an external threat, because those stories maintain interest and draw in the viewers and hence the profits.

China, as the world’s leading economic power, is an obvious choice as a threat to American culture, whether they are or not.

Liberal news outlets aren’t impelled to do the same thing. They seek alternate narratives.
