When did culture become something one could own or steal? I have never met someone who was born speaking a language or practising a cultural tradition or believing in a religion’s sacred texts.
They learn it by watching and listening to others, or reading the books.
Everyone appropriates culture. If it is not in our genes as instinctive behaviour, there is simply no other way to gain it than to learn it from others.
As for religion, if it is so fragile that it cannot withstand a little rough handling, it cannot be much good. Are not religions supposed to give access to the deepest truths of the cosmos and the human nature? If the thing is wounded by a teenager’s callow mockery, it is a sham. Find some truths that are more durable.
