You don’t think that using partisan sources might make your essay appear partisan as well?
The problem with requiring voter ID, as I understand it, is that obtaining ID is not something easily available to all. If you don’t have a passport or drivers licence, then what do you do?
I’m astonished that different States have different rules. In Australia the federal government controls elections through an independent commission, and changes to voting laws are rare and well publicised when they happen.
Voter fraud is consistently negligible, despite every eligible Australian being required to attend a polling place, and no voter ID required. The rolls from the different booths are compared and any discrepancies investigated. It is vanishingly rare that any wrongdoing is uncovered.
America, on the other hand seems to make the process as opaque and complex as possible. Strange that the home of modern democracy has the worst system of all Western nations.
